ISO 17100 Translation Services Management System

Determining a globalization strategy in today's high-tech world is essential for companies to gain competitive advantage. This is necessary not only in terms of sales but also in terms of raw materials, know-how exchange, human resources, research and development and similar accumulations. Businesses with this understanding must find different ways to expand their market areas and expand their product or service line. It is important to extend beyond the local boundaries, especially in times of intense or stagnant domestic market conditions.

One of the main difficulties of entering foreign markets for businesses is the lack of brand awareness in consumers. To achieve this, effective and consistent promotional techniques and promotional programs should be applied. To get the most out of these methods, it is necessary to understand the importance of the language used in the media. Calling in the language of the consumers in the markets to be reached requires translation services. If such a planning is made, it is best to address consumers in their own language.

No matter how superior the quality and quality of products and services offered to consumers, they will not have much marketing opportunities if they cannot be addressed in the language of consumers. No matter how successful campaigns are made in their own language, businesses will not help unless consumers understand. At this point, the importance of translation services emerges. Translation is actually an art. Because a translation that will be made word by word in terms of meaning, is far from reflecting the spirit of kapmanya. A translation blended with the culture, habits and even humor understanding of the country where the translated language is spoken will fully reflect the message intended for consumers.

Of course, the field of translation services is not limited to marketing and advertising campaigns. It's just an example. Today, there is a need for dial-up services in almost every subject, from legal services to medical studies, conferences and meetings to inter-company contracts.

In general, the concerns of people and organizations who want to receive translation services are common. I wonder if will translation work be perfect? Will the original text have lost its meaning? How well do people who will translate? What is the level of service quality in translation companies?

Mainly translation companies are expected to translate written texts, literary works, scientific articles, newspapers and magazines, economic, political, legal, technical or other writings in the original language into a desired language without disturbing the integrity of the meaning of the text. Or, a speech is requested to be transferred to a audience without disturbing the integrity of the meaning of the speech. In other words, translation services are provided in two types: translation services such as translation of an information or document, and interpreting services (simultaneous, instant translation or bilateral, mutual translation).

In 2006, the International Standards Organization (ISO) first published the ISO 15038 standard (TS EN 15038 Translation services - Service requirements) in order to improve the quality of translation services. However, in parallel with the changing needs and developing technologies, this standard was revoked in 2015 and replaced with the ISO 17100 standard (TS EN ISO 17100 Translation Services - Requirements for translation services).

The first published standard is fully prepared for translation companies. However, the ISO 17100 standard regulates the processes, resources and other requirements necessary for the provision of quality translation services. In order to provide a quality translation service, translation companies must configure their business processes and resources according to the requirements of this standard. The only missing aspect of this standard is that it does not include interpreting services.

In short, the ISO 17100 Translation Services Management System is more comprehensive and contains more details than before. The biggest contribution of this system is to build trust in customers. This is because the companies that have the certificate of this system have proved to their customers that they have all the conditions in terms of service and personnel competence.
